Neurodegenerative Disorders of Aging Mission

The mission of the “Neurodegenerative disorders of aging” community is to foster cross-disciplinary topics on Neurodegenerative disorders of aging, including cutting-edge translational research that can lead to the discovery of novel protective biological pathways, or disease-modifying therapeutic interventions. The community is open to publish original research, novel methodologies and review articles related to proteinopathies.

Aims:

• To reveal poorly understood biological, genetic and environmental mechanisms behind proteinopathies including AD, frontotemporal dementia, Huntington’s disease and related disorders characterized by aberrant protein folding.
• To identify and characterize factors that confer resilience against neurodegenerations, including protective genetic variants and environmental factors.
• To bring the existing knowledge gaps by publishing novel research that integrates clinical, molecular and computational approaches, with the goal of discovering novel preventive or curative approaches against neurodegenerative diseases.

We welcome diverse article types and encourage submissions of null, negative, and contradictory results, as well as replication studies. All contributions and perspectives strengthen our collective understanding of the complexities of neurodegenerative disorders.

Multilingual submissions and peer review

Currently, our editorial pool is open to receive articles in both English and Italian (all articles translated and published in English at the end).

If you want to submit in a different language, please contact us at edops@sciencebank.com with your proposal to assess if we have the capacity to evaluate your paper.

Publishing fees

Our community publishes fully open access, peer reviewed academic content. Our Article Processing Charges (APC) is 1,000 USD and there are no submission fees. Waivers are available upon request and according to ScienceBank's editorial policies (section "Waivers" in the Fees and Payment policy). To promote equitable access to scientific publishing, we offer APC waivers for researchers from low- and middle-income countries, supporting broader global participation in neuroscience research. Type of peer review

Our community offers a single-blind review system, which means:

• Authors’ and institute’s names are visible to reviewers and editors during peer review
• Reviewers’ and editor’s names and their institutes are anonymized throughout the peer-review process but made visible upon publication or rejection
• Reviewers' names and institutes are anonymized to each other during the peer review process
• For accepted articles, names of the editors and reviewers will be visible alongside the final article

Peer review process

1. Pre-screening: All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the ScienceBank team to ensure policy compliance with our policies, originality (using the software of Similarity Check), and the overall quality.
2. Pre-acceptance: If a manuscript passes the initial screening, an editor from our community will evaluate whether it has the enough amount and quality of information (according to article's needs and the field standard) to proceed to peer review. In the case of potential conflicts of interests with our current editors and the authors, ScienceBank will suggest an appropriate editor from another community.
3. Peer review: After pre-acceptance, two external reviewers are invited to evaluate the manuscript and provide constructive feedback aimed at improving it. Editors will then scope reviewers' comments to offer authors clear guidance on the revisions needed for resubmission.
